As part of a programme of support available for staff and students during the Covid-19 pandemic Sarah Stewart-Brown is running weekly wellbeing sessions on Microsoft Teams. The session usually starts with a brief check in with those participating followed by a guided meditation. Sarah will also talk about wellbeing in relation to issues raised at the start and provide some tips for taking care of yourself.
The dates and times of the sessions will be communicated through the weekly newsletter and other local distribution channels.
You can also explore tips Sarah has put together on how we can take care of ourselves. On the wellbeing tips page there is more advice on how to look after your physical and mental health with ideas on self-care, looking after your nutrition and keeping active.
We encourage our staff and students to get involved in wellbeing activities during their lunch breaks and after work to take some time away from the office and do something completely different. We provide a poster template for people who want to promote their own groups that they have set up and activities are featured in our weekly newsletter. Recent activities have included:
- Yoga classes
Since 2016 we have run two yoga sessions per week at WMS, open to all staff and students. One session is held during a lunch hour and the other straight after work.
- Football sessions
Set up by a member of staff, football sessions take place every week with regular staff/student tournaments.
- Book club
- Walking and running groups
- Craft club
- Self defence classes
- CPR training
Every year we hold a Health and Wellbeing Day at WMS, in collaboration with the School of Life Sciences. Open to all staff and students, the day gives participants the chance to take time out of the working week to try some new activities, speak to internal and external wellbeing teams and organisations and sample some healthy food! Recent activities have included:
- Salsa dancing
- Lindy hop
- Hula hooping
- Fermented food workshop
- Knitting and crochet
The day has been running for the last three years and always receives positive feedback! Find out more about the latest event.
