Inclusive Education
Co-chairs: Emily Roisin Reid, Claire Bastie
Aims
We are committed to creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for all students, regardless of gender or background. Our goals include better understanding the diversity of our student community by improving how we capture and analyse gender and intersectional data. This will help us uncover and address hidden barriers. We’re also working to balance gender representation in Postgraduate Research (PGR) programmes and improve inclusivity in our marketing, mentoring, and career support initiatives. Additionally, we are focusing on supporting students in both part-time and full-time Postgraduate Taught (PGT) studies to ensure everyone has access to the opportunities they need to thrive.
Activities/ Achievements
Students can now declare their gender beyond traditional categories, allowing us to analyse trends more deeply. For example, we’ve identified areas needing attention, such as offer rates for female BAME MBChB applicants. Marketing materials have been updated to reflect inclusivity, and our career talks now feature diverse voices. Peer mentoring programs are growing, and alumni networks and inclusive career expos highlight success stories across all genders. The Inclusive Education refined KPIs help us stay on track with these goals.
Future Plans
Looking ahead, we’re focused on turning insights into action. We aim to better understand and address gendered challenges in assessments and other key areas. Mentoring programmes will be expanded to provide more tailored support, and we will work to showcase diverse role models in faculty roles and alumni speakers. Inclusivity remains a priority as we enhance pathways for part-time study and tackle gendered differences in outcomes. By listening to experiences and exploring intersectional issues, we’ll continue building an environment where every student can flourish.
