Review our Resources for Guides & further support. Here you'll find BiteSize Lived Experience videos from WMS students too. Then, complete our Checklist to assess your Inclusive Education practices.
Below are our recommended criteria that all educational staff should ensure are consistently included in their practice.
Identify & eliminate barriers to student engagement
Recognise that students juggle various commitments, such as caregiving & employment, & design teaching activities to be accessible to everyone, including those with disabilities
Prioritise inclusivity in all activities
Ensure that programs respect & engage all students appropriately, taking into account the cultural & legal contexts, especially regarding marginalised groups
Allow curriculum personalisation to enhance student engagement
Providing options for assignments can foster interest & motivation
Create authentic learning opportunities that encourage active participation
Implement strategies such as problem-based learning & collaborative projects to allow students to apply & test their knowledge, addressing educational inequalities in the process
Ensure clarity on required knowledge & skills for success
Inclusive programs should accommodate varied entry qualifications & implement an intensive orientation to equip all students with necessary foundational skills before introducing new content
Embrace diverse & decolonised perspectives
Address historical power imbalances in the curriculum across all disciplines - for example, inclusive healthcare programs should focus on health inequalities in marginalised groups
