Professor Rebecca Kearney - Leading Lights

Title:

Being a Super Woman, not Superwoman
Summary of talk:

I’m from a background where going to University was not the ‘norm’ and I now have three kids. So how did I get here? I will tell you a bit about me and the early experiences that shaped who I am today. I will explain why I am the type of person who does not accept what we are doing is ‘the best’ and refuses to be told what to do, or accept that there are ‘no other options’ (there are always options). I will describe the importance of being in an exceptional clinical and academic training environment; surrounded by innovative and inspirational leads.

There is no professional life without a personal life and separating the two is a waste of time. So I will also tell the parallel story of my family, getting married, having three kids and how they keep me grounded. There’s nothing like a big bear hug from three kids to quickly get over one of the many grant or paper rejections, they make me resilient in this tough world.
