International MPH student profile: Jinchen

Jinchen joined our Master's in Public Health following undergraduate studies in Biomedical Engineering. He tells us why he chose to come to Warwick and shares his tips for others considering applying.

Why did you decide to apply to the Master’s in Public Health at Warwick Medical School?

I completed my undergraduate studies in Biomedical Engineering at both the University of Dundee in the UK and Northeastern University in China. My undergraduate research focused on areas closely related to public health, and I also had the opportunity to engage with the UK’s Cancer Research Centre. These experiences inspired me to pursue a career in public health, aiming to make meaningful contributions to this field.

 

Was there anything in particular that drew you to studying in the UK and at this university?

The University of Warwick stands out for its commitment to fostering well-rounded student development and its reputation for academic excellence. The diverse, inclusive campus community and the wide range of activities available create an engaging environment that perfectly complements academic study. I was also drawn to Warwick’s emphasis on addressing global public health challenges through innovative research and education. Studying in the UK provides me with a balance of academic rigor and personal freedom, making it an ideal setting for pursuing my goals in public health.

 

How did you find the transition to life and study in the UK?

The transition to life in the UK has been smooth and enjoyable for me, as I had previously studied here during my undergraduate years. I find the UK lifestyle comfortable and inspiring, with its balance of independence and support. Adjusting to Warwick’s vibrant campus life was seamless, as there are numerous activities and events that make it easy to feel part of the community.

 

How have you found the course?

The start of the course has been incredibly stimulating. The engaging lectures and collaborative atmosphere have deepened my understanding of public health. One of the highlights has been the opportunity to connect with peers from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds, which has broadened my perspective and enriched my learning experience.

 

What tips do you have for other international applicants to the Master's in Public Health?

For international applicants, I would recommend being open to new experiences and engaging actively with your peers and professors. Participating in campus activities can help you quickly adapt to university life and build lasting connections. Also, take advantage of Warwick’s support services for international students - they are incredibly helpful in navigating both academic and personal transitions.
