James Gulliford
The Warwick physics course made me challenge the most fundamental assumptions I held about the world. It taught me to be logical and rigorous but also creative and imaginative. Whilst I don't directly use physics in my career, the patterns of thinking I developed over the course of my studies support me in tackling problems creatively and efficiently.
I acquired a role as a technical consultant in a leading UK consultancy. Developing a portfolio of technical skills from laboratory and computing modules throughout my physics degree has allowed me to transition into my new role with relative ease and provided me with confidence in communicating technical information to clients.
Working on collaborative research projects equipped me with an array of presentation and teamwork skills that I rely on heavily to be an effective team member at our work. Warwick did a great job of encouraging myself and my partner to think for ourselves during our final-year research project and not rely too closely on our academic supervisor, providing excellent preparation for work projects in the real world.
