Please Note: These events are all mandatory for all Postgraduates joining the Department in 2018. If you are unable to be here for any of these sessions you must contact email@example.com - explaining the reason why you cannot attend. Your absence will then need to be authorised by the Director of Graduate Studies.

If you will be receiving a Stipend please make sure we have your bank details. Follow these instructions
Please arrange with your Supervisor when and where you should meet them on your first day (please avoid the times listed in the induction timetable below).
Your Supervisor will organise your group induction and introduce you to the rest of your Research Group.
You should already be in contact with your Supervisor, but if you need their contact details, please check the Physics Staff Directory

Monday 1st October 2018:
Departmental Postgraduate Induction Meeting
Time 11 am Location: Room PS128 (Physical Sciences Building)
Please come along to a welcome seminar from the Head of Department.
There will various other presentations which will include lots of useful information to help you settle into your new environment. Please note this session will include the Health and Safety Briefing which is compulsory.

Departmental Postgraduate Welcome Reception
Time: 4 pm Location: Physics Concourse (3rd floor of the Physics Building)
You are invited to join us for an informal drinks reception on the Physics Concourse from 4pm. This is an opportunity to meet your fellow postgraduates, researchers and academic staff in the Department over drinks and nibbles.
Tuesday 2nd October 2018:
Induction Talk by the Director of Graduate Studies, Professor Matthew Turner
Time: 9.15 am Location: Room H0.60 Humanities Building
This talk is manadatory and contains extremely important information for all Postgraduates, whether you are previously a Warwick student of if you are new to Warwick. There will also be information about teaching and demonstrating duties and the Skills Forge Programme.
Time: 2 pm Location: Physics Common Room (Room P564 in the Physics Building)
All new Postgraduates should come to the Common Room to have their photograph taken. These will be displayed on the Physics concourse with our staff photos.

Wednesday 3rd October 2018:
Physics Teaching and Demonstrating Training Day
Time: 2 pm - 5 pm Location: Room PS128 (Physical Sciences Building)
Lunch will be provided from 1.15 pm in the Physics Common Room (Room P564 in the Physics Building)
It is an expectation that Postgraduate Students will undertake some teaching, demonstrating or marking duties, all of which are paid roles (this training session is included in the payments).
It is a University regulation that anyone undertaking teaching or demonstrating has been fully trained. Even if you have not yet been allocated a role, you are on the reserve list and may be asked to teach at any time. Therefore this session is compulsory for all PhD students. If you will be unable to attend please email Tom Hase immediately.
