20th European White Dwarf Workshop
The 20th edition of the European White Dwarf Workshop was held at Warwick. The meeting covered the structure and evolution of white dwarfs, as well as a wide range of astrophysical problems in which white dwarfs play a central role, such as SN Ia progenitors, the local star formation history, and evolved planetary systems.
More success with the Hubble Space Telescope for the Astronomy group
The Astronomy group has won a further four observing proposals on the Hubble Space Telescope in its latest round.
Stars intense radiation beams whip neighbouring red dwarf
Research on a new type of exotic binary star, in which a rapidly-spinning white dwarf sweeps powerful beams of particles and radiation over its nearby companion star, causing it to pulse across almost the entire electromagnetic spectrum from the ultraviolet to radio, is published in the journal Nature.
