Aurora Science Programme
The UK Space Agency invites applications for the Aurora science programme. This supports planetary exploration science in order to enhance the UK’s capabilities and cross-disciplinary approach. The following types of funding are available:
•fellowships to develop promising early career researchers or to allow existing academics to discipline-hop;
•postdoctorate research assistants;
•studentships;
•support for academics to participate in international science teams to exploit data from future missions such as the NASA InSight mission.
Applications are particularly welcome in the following areas: InSight and Trace Gas Orbiter data exploitation to investigate the interior structure and processes of Mars; and preparation of data exploitation of 2020 ExoMars to search for traces of past and present life.
Academics and individual scientists from the UK or overseas, working at UK research organisations may apply. Preference is given to new fellowships although extensions to current fellowships are considered.
Awards are made in line with standard the Science and Technology Facilities Council criteria for postdoctoral research awards and fellowships. Grants are administered by STFC, in accordance with their financial rules, on behalf of the UK Space Agency. Reasonable costs are permitted, but all costs must be justified. Postdoctoral research awards are available for up to four years, whereas fellowships are available for up to three years, but may be held part-time for up to six years.
