Current group members

Zixuan Li

Zixuan Li joined Dr Alex Robertson’s group in October 2021 as a PhD student under the co-supervision of Prof. Peter Bruce. Her research project focuses on exploring the mechanisms inhibiting reversible cycling of multivalent electrolytes by in-situ electron microscopy.

Robert Wells

Rob is a PhD student who joined the group in October 2022. His research focuses on the study of 2D materials. In particular, the use of in-operando TEM to study memristor devices made from monolayers of Molybdenum Disulphide.

Dr Yi Yuan

Yi is now working as a postdoc, where her research project focuses on materials processes via in-situ electron microscopy, in particular electrochemical reactions.

Abdul Wahab

Abdul Wahab is a visiting PhD student from the Politecnico di Torino, Italy, in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT). His research focuses on operando characterization of energy-related reactions and heterogeneous catalysis.

Dr Rongrong Qi

Rongrong completed her PhD at the University of Manchester, and is now a postdoctoral researcher working on ferroelectric 2D materials using in situ transmission electron microscopy.

Dr Harriet Nevison-Andrews

Harriet is a postdoctoral researcher working on two-dimensional material devices for transmission electron microscopy. She completed her PhD at Manchester.

Oscar Long

Oscar joined the group as a PhD student in October 2024. His project is looking at the use of 2D materials to aid the study of liquids and electrochemistry by TEM.

Gianluca Seaford

Luca is a PhD student at the CDT for Modelling Heterogeneous Systems (HetSys), lead supervised by Prof Nicholas Hine, focusing on simulating nucleation and electrochemical processes via machine-learned interatomic potentials (MLIPs).

Jessica Mould

Jessica joined the group in 2025 to study for a PhD in 2D material devices. She is looking at understanding the atomic level mechanisms that occur in memristive switching by transmission electron microscopy.

Dr Keqi Qu

Dr Keqi Qu holds a 2025 Marie-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship award. She is interested in understanding and designing eutectic electrolytes for better aqueous zinc ion batteries.
