Biography
In 2005 Dr Michael Pounds graduated with a first class degree from Merton College, Oxford, and then moved to the University of Edinburgh to complete a PhD in theoretical condensed matter physics under the supervision of Prof. Paul Madden, FRS. His first position was at Leicester University where he was invited to audit the teaching and research activities across the College of Science and Engineering. In 2010 he moved to the University of Surrey as a teaching fellow in physical chemistry, and began studying for a degree in mathematics at The Open University. Inspired by the success of current Asian secondary education, Michael moved in 2013 to Shanghai to become the first Head of Chemistry at a boarding school for Chinese sixth formers. In 2014 he returned to the UK to become the first Director of Student Experience within the Physics Department at Warwick.
