Fees & Funding
For a PhD in Statistics there are several "regular" competitive sources of funding for students, many of which pay for academic fees plus a contribution to the living expenses of successful applicants. Here we list the main sources of funding. Please also refer to the Doctoral College website for further opportunities.
Department Led Scholarships
Department of Statistics CDT Studentships & EPSRC DLA Studentships
The Department of Statistics has 10+ PhD studentships available for students starting in the academic year 27/28, the majority of which are open to students of all nationalities.
The Statistics CDT Studentships and EPSRC DLA Studentships will cover Home (UK) or Overseas academic fees as appropriate, plus a maintenance stipend paid at the UKRI rate – for 27/28, this will be £21,830.
Funded students will also receive a generous Research Training Support Grant (RTSG) worth £5,000 for the duration of the PhD. You can find more information on the following page: Conferences.
Funding is available, subject to satisfactory performance, for the full 4 years of the CDT programme. The Department will start to take funding decisions around the end of November. For this reason, we strongly encourage you to apply in the autumn for a start the following year. Whilst we accept applications up to the summer, funding is often exhausted much earlier in the admissions cycle.
