As soon as you have enrolled, and registered for your IT account, you can complete our Mathematics Refresher course (available early September).

If you have not enrolled, do not be concerned.

Mathematics Refresher course

To ensure everyone has the same fundamental knowledge, the Mathematics Refresher (MA1K2) (Available early September 2023, IT registration required) will help you prepare for university level teaching and learning.

We strongly encourage all incoming students to work through this module regardless of which school qualification you obtained.

MORSE and Data Science

Current departmental students have recommended some websites that refresher economics for MORSE students and provide some programming experience for Data Science students.

If you are unable to register for IT

Don't be concerned, while you complete your enrolment and then register for an IT account we have provided some external resources in the "background material" and "recommended websites" sections.

There are separate Course Handbook for Data Science, for MORSE and for Mathematics & Statistics. The up-to-date version of your Course Handbook Link opens in a new windowis maintained online. The handbooks are updated yearly around the middle of September.

During Welcome Week each course's course director will provide you with a briefing on your course and we will have staff and current students ready to answer your questions.

We do not expect you to complete wider this reading before you start your course. All the reading lists you need for your course are embedded into your course materials.

However, many new students find the study level at university different from the mathematics completed at high school. The following texts may help understand the the difference:

Mathematics. If you wish to continue practicing your advanced mathematical problem solving, the following pages are recommended.

• NRICH enriching mathematics - a comprehensive collection of mathematics problems. The Advanced Problem Solving Modules are useful to demonstrating the different in thinking between problem solving and the application of procedures.
• STEP preparation website - STEP questions enhance mathematical problem solving.

For MORSE students. If you did you study economics before university, then current students have recommended EconplusDal YouTube channel. This channel contains multiple short videos covering Microeconomics and Macroeconomics. Our students stated that they found the information useful background for Year 1 economics.

For Data Science students. If you did not study programming or computer science before university then MEI offer 6 lessons that provide an Introduction to Data Science including programming.

Our current students compiled a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for studying in the Statistics department. These are questions they wish they asked or had asked when they started with us. The questions include
