PhD student Ioannis Kosmidis has won the award for Best Scientific Content in a Poster Presented by a Student at this year's International Workshop on Statistical Modelling (Barcelona, July 2007).  Ioannis's poster, titled "Penalized likelihood for a three-parameter Rasch model", showed how to improve upon the standard maximum-likelihood method of estimation by means of a simple adjustment procedure.

The IWSM is an annual meeting organised by the Statistical Modelling Society.  The award to Ioannis was sponsored by Springer publishers.
