Teacher CPD

TurtleStitch Discovery Day: Exploring creative computing in the classroom.

When: 19th March, 10.00 - 15.00, drop in anytime (12.00 - 12:30 lunchbreak)

Where: International Manufacturing Centre, WMG, University of Warwick

Join us for a hands-on day exploring TurtleStitch, a creative platform that blends coding with digital embroidery.  TurtleStitch is free and open source software.

This informal drop-in event is designed for teachers who want to experience programmatic embroidery for themselves and discover how it can enrich learning across Computing, Maths, Art and Design, as well as cross-curricular projects.

Throughout the day, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Explore the TurtleStitch platform. Try out the software at your own pace, experiment with blocks‑based coding, and see how simple algorithms can produce intricate stitched patterns.
  • Use digital embroidery machines. Have a go at transferring your designs from screen to fabric. We’ll show you the process, demonstrate common techniques, and support you as you experiment with stitching your own creations.
  • Discover classroom resources. Pick up sample lesson ideas, teaching strategies, and resources for introducing TurtleStitch to learners of all ages. We’ll share examples of student work, curriculum links, and practical tips for managing the technology in a classroom setting.
  • Learn in a relaxed, supportive environment. Drop in whenever it suits you—stay for a short taster or settle in for a deeper dive. The session is informal, exploratory, and designed to give teachers the confidence to bring TurtleStitch into their teaching.
