During my different projects I have had to focus on different skill sets; I have had projects which were more internet based research where I was more responsible for organising my own time to ensure I was able to present a good report detailing my findings. Other projects which heavily relied on collaboration with experts both within WMG and industry in order to generate a set of battery targets for different industry sectors. My current work has been more focused on the design and execution of practical experiments within the laboratory.

As part of my third and fourth year projects for my degree, I had worked in WMG and became familiar with the department and thought that the working culture would suit me. The work that WMG focuses on - research which bridges the gap between fundamental science and industry - also appealed to me.

I have always had a keen interest for innovation and exciting areas of research, in which I felt I would be able to experience during the course of the graduate scheme. The chance to research into battery technologies and improve our understanding of them in order to aid the electrification of many sectors is something that I wanted to be involved with.

I was attracted to the scheme because it offers different placements that will give me experience in areas I wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to access, in either academia or industry – it is the perfect mix of both! I was interested in Battery research after finishing my MSc Chemistry degree and I was impressed to learn about how WMG is involved in cutting edge research.

The WMG graduate scheme is ideal for anyone who is keen to both develop their technical and personal skills. You have the flexibility to choose the direction for your projects and learn from an experienced supervisor. In my opinion the scheme is a great stepping stone into research and industry from University.
