Professor Godsell joins NFU line-up

Jan GodsellWMG’s Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Strategy, Jan Godsell, will be speaking at the 2016 NFU conference, on Wednesday 24th February.

The two-day Backing the Future of British Farming conference takes place from 23-24 February at the ICC in Birmingham. Professor Godsell is joining speakers including George Eustice MP on the Wednesday, to take part in a special workshop entitled: Working together; where next for farming businesses?”

TVS to Tata, Accenture to Alstom – Delhi event celebrates how Warwick’s Indian Alumni are helping transform India

Professor Lord Bhattacharyya in WorkshopSenior Indian Alumni of the University of Warwick are gathering together at New Delhi’s Taj Mahal Hotel on Saturday 5th December to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the University of Warwick and the significant role Indian students and alumni have played in its history.

Many leading Indian figures have graduated from the University of Warwick and gone to play leading roles in Indian society and business.

Sudarshan Venu, Joint Managing Director, TVS Motor Company said:

My education at WMG at the University of Warwick provided a fantastic combination of engineering and management‎. The strong tie-ups with global industry leaders in automotive and other sectors gave me great exposure. The tie up with WMG and the personal guidance of Lord Bhattacharyya have been instrumental to the growth and success of TVS over the last 30 years and I am extremely fortunate to have learnt so much from him."

The event will be addressed by The University of Warwick’s Vice Chancellor Professor Sir Nigel Thrift, and Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya, Founder and Chairman of the WMG (Warwick Manufacturing Group) at the University of Warwick.

Debating the Key Issues For British Manufacturing

Jan Godsell WMG’s Professor of Operations and Supply Chain, Jan Godsell will be chairing The Manufacturing A Leader’s Conference (TMALC) from 25-26 November 2015 at the ICC in Birmingham. The prestigious two-day event will bring together leading figures from the community to discuss and debate the key issues in British manufacturing.

The conference will explore topics including circular economy, productivity and innovation. Professor Godsell will also be joined by WMG’s Dr Donato Masi who will be presenting ‘Adapting and Innovating Supply Chain.’ Other speakers include Callum Bentley, Editor at The Manufacturer, Barry Naisbitt from Santander, David Johnson from Meggitt and David Landsman from Tata.

Visitors can learn about the importance of modern engineering in our everyday life and how things are designed and made. Youngsters are also able to meet successful real-life young engineers.

Dr Kirwan’s ‘Dispelling The Myth That Sustainable Materials Are Inferior…’ will use Warwick’s WorldF3rst racing project to show what can be achieved with sustainable, natural and recycled materials.

 

 


WMG Takes a Place in Coventry's Esteemed Transport History

Coventry Motor MuseumWMG is thrilled to be part of the Pioneering the Future exhibition at the newly re-launched Coventry Transport Museum.

The Museum re-opened in June after a £9.5million face-lift. WMG is showcasing its innovative research into the pursuit of smarter, lighter, greener transport. A big challenge for transport manufacturers is how to make vehicles more sustainable for the future. As leaders in innovation for over 35 years WMG collaborates on projects with manufacturers such as Jaguar Land Rover to create pioneering products which also meet strict weight regulations whilst satisfying customer demand for increased performance of vehicles.

Supply Chains: New Study to Examine Why Getting in the Middle of a Chain Reaction Matters

My Chain ReactionWMG, at the University of Warwick, is spearheading a national research study to highlight the crucial role supply chains play within the British economy.

As pressure mounts for the UK to hit its already downgraded 2015 GDP growth forecasts, the importance of maximising Britain’s industrial output has once again come into focus, with supply chains forming a fundamental part of this process.

The online study, which is being led by WMG Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Strategy, Janet Godsell, launches today, Tuesday 7th July 2015, at www.mychainreaction.co.uk and has been designed to uncover our knowledge and understanding of what a supply chain is, and how we as individuals are an integral part of supply chains up and down the country.

Business Support Programme exceeds expectations, helping 1400 West Midlands companies

SME TeamYesterday evening (Wednesday 10th June 2015), WMG at the University of Warwick celebrated the completion of its funded programme at the International Institute for Product and Service Innovation. It was announced that the programme had reached 1400 West Midlands companies, with 207 projects completed and as a result 200 jobs had been either safeguarded or created in the region.

The SME Team at WMG has also created four innovation driven businesses, and generated additional revenue for SMEs to engage in further research with the institution. A number of products have also been developed through the programme including a novel mudguard product - Mudhugger, ski locking system - Loqski with Barkley Plastics Ltd and an innovative LED light which has been designed for high speed camera applications with Simpact Engineering Ltd.

The International Institute for Product and Service Innovation was part funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the University of Warwick to the value of £12.4 million. Over the last four years IIPSI and its Innovation Programme has supported West Midlands SMEs access world-leading technology to develop highly competitive, innovative products and services.

One company to benefit from the scheme was Autins Group who after initially attending a digital marketing workshop worked with WMG to develop a novel material from their factory waste and developed a new product line. Jim Griffin, Chairman at Autins Group said:

It has been a delight to work with WMG over the last four years. SMEs across the UK should make the most of the support offered by academic institutions to help them innovate and grow; it has certainly worked for us!”

Coventry pupils to mark 10 day week with 3D printing at Herbert Art Gallery & Museum

3D PrintingBritish Science Week is three days longer than a normal week (13-22nd March) and Coventry school children will be making use of the 3 extra days in that “week” with a special 3D printing and engineering event led by the University of Warwick at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum in Coventry on Saturday 21st of March from 10am to 4pm.

Working with Diane Burton, (Project Officer for the CAD and 3D Printing Project at WMG at the University of Warwick), the young people from Stoke Park and Cardinal Wiseman schools will be exhibiting their work using the technology of 3D printing. There will also be an opportunity for visitors to try the technology for themselves.

Alongside those 3D printed products, the University of Warwick’s Engineering students will be exhibiting a human powered submarine created for an international student submarine competition and the latest version of a rescue robot designed for an international student competition to create a robot to search disaster scenes and locate survivors

Fostering Digital Healthcare Collaborations

WMHIN EventOn 28 January 2015, the Institute of Digital Healthcare (IDH) at WMG hosted Fostering Digital Healthcare Collaborations, an event organised by the West Midlands Health Informatics Network (WIN). WIN is a West Midlands Academic Health Science Network-supported project, hosted by IDH.

The aim of this event was to encourage networking and partnerships across stakeholder groups from around the West Midlands and beyond, the ultimate aim of which is to improve outcomes for patients and carers.

The programme included scheduled talks from exhibitors, with show-and-tell sessions, to showcase research, products and services.
