Research Fellow named as 2024 ‘Top Scholar’

Congratulations to Dr Saif Ul IslamLink opens in a new window, a Research Fellow in Cyber Systems Engineering at WMG, University of Warwick, who has been named a ‘2024 Top Scholar’ by ScholarGPS.

The honour recognises Dr Islam’s outstanding contributions to engineering and computer science – especially in the fields of fog computingLink opens in a new window and wireless sensor networksLink opens in a new window, which he is ranked 26th and 143rd in the world respectively.

As a Top Scholar, Dr Islam has been identified amongst the most influential 0.5% academics worldwideLink opens in a new window, a milestone achievement testament to his strong publication record and high-quality work, plus the notable impact of his research.


Reflecting on the honour, Dr Saif Ul Islam attributes his success to those around him: “In research, we say 'we' because every achievement is a shared journey — one of learning, questioning, and exploring the unknown, with the hope of uncovering knowledge that can serve and uplift humanity.

“This recognition is not mine alone; it belongs equally to my mentors, students, peers, family, friends, and all who have contributed to and supported this journey.”

ScholarGPSLink opens in a new window provides fully quantitative rankings of all scholars, universities, research institutions, and academic programmes worldwide. The database holds detailed profiles for over 30 million scholars and 120,000 research institutions, and ranks them according to their research productivity, impact, and quality.

Dr Saif Ul Islam was also recognised in the prestigious Stanford-Elsevier ‘World’s Top 2% Scientists’ listing last year, which ranks over 100,000 top scientists across the world based on standardised citation indicators, including the impact their work has had in their field or specialism.

Dr Islam is a part of WMG’s Secure Cyber Systems Research Group (SCSRG) and a lead researcher on the EU Horizon project INSAFEDARELink opens in a new window.

He – along with WMG’s Dr Gregory Epipahaniou and Professor Carsten Maple – is also a guest editor for Sage Journal’s DIGITAL HEALTH Special Collection: “Innovations and Applications of Synthetic Data in Transforming Healthcare Systems: Opportunities, Challenges and Ethical Considerations”Link opens in a new window.
