Research Interests

My research interests are broadly in the areas of lithium-ion battery modelling, electric vehicles and mechatronics using system identification methodologies as the foundation. These techniques and methodologies have the advantage that many engineering applications can be viewed as a general nonlinear or parameter varying dynamic system. As such, I am particularly interested in developing modelling techniques for battery dynamics and mechatronic systems by viewing them within a dynamic system framework and an inverse problem setting.

Biography

Dhammika Widanage was awarded a Ph.D. in 2008 for research done at the Stochastic and Complex Systems Laboratory Group from the University of Warwick and graduated with a First-Class BEng Honours in Electronic and Communication Engineering in 2004 from the University of Warwick, U.K. Prior to joining WMG he was a Post-doctoral Researcher at the Department of Electric Engineering and Energy Technology and the Department of Fundamental Electricity and Instrumentation at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium, where he worked on several Belgian national funded projects and a European FP7 project. He then joined WMG as a Senior Research Fellow within the WMG High Value Manufacturing Catapult team at the University of Warwick before being appointed as a faculty member of the department.
