Research Themes
Ceramics
We specialise in ceramic process optimisation, working with industrial partners across multi-sectors of all shapes and sizes, including structural ceramics, energy storage, defence, renewable energy, communications and beyond.
We have a thorough understanding of the scientific principles that underpin the solutions and the challenges. Areas of specialisation include: low-energy sintering routes, microstructural characterisation, functional and structure-property characterisation, metamaterials and other heterogeneous composites, and supply chain and life-cycle analysis.
Additionally, we have a selection of wider facilities applicable to other technology areas and sector challenges available to industrial collaborators.
Advanced Materials Characterisation to Product Inspection
The University of Warwick is home to the Centre for Imaging Metrology and Additive Technologies (CiMAT), a group within WMG and one of the five National X-ray Computed Tomography (NXCT) facilities in the UK.
Comprised of engineers, scientists and mathematicians, the CiMAT team provides a breadth of expertise. Whether enhancing fundamental algorithms for new metrology applications or applying these technologies on industry products and processes, the CiMAT group can help.
The group’s imaging metrology capabilities cover both computed tomography (CT) and a series of co-ordinate measurement machines (CMM) and other metrology solutions for industry. Both technologies are enablers for WMG’s directives, whether you are an OEM, SME or a researcher, we have metrology capabilities for you.
Additive Manufacturing
We specialise in the application of Additive Manufacturing, working with academic and industrial partners across multi-sectors of all shapes and sizes, including automotive, aerospace, defence and beyond, to deliver new Additive Manufacturing solutions across all technology readiness levels.
To do this we also have a thorough understanding of the enabling technologies and materials that underpin the solutions and challenges. We pioneer and optimise new methods and materials for high-value manufacturing.
Our areas of specialisation include light-weighting vehicles towards net-zero sustainable transport, low-cost and agile solutions to volume manufacture, and resilient and reconfigurable Additive Manufacturing enabled supply chains.
Virtual Tour
WMG is renowned for its extensive research and innovation in the field of Additive Manufacturing (AM). The group collaborates with industry partners to drive research that spans various aspects of AM, including novel materials development, process optimisation, and the integration of 3D printing into existing manufacturing processes.
