6.1 Your online accounts and passwords

Passwords for your online accounts

If you go back and look at all the account we created in this toolkit so far, we have each account had its own password. This includes our google account, including Gmail (Module 1) and our different accounts on job and recruitment websites (Module 5) all had passwords.

Passwords are the first and the most critical line of defence against risks to your privacy and security online. In terms of your online job search and application, these passwords:

1- Protect your personal information

2- Prevents Identity thefts

And as a result, they protect your professional identity and reputation.

Now, there is an art to having good reliable passwords these passwords should have the following characteristics:

These passwords should be strong. Some features of strong passwords include: Random, unique, includes a combination of letter both UPPERCASE and lowercase, numbers and characters $%^.

The passwords should be long (at least 12 characters), unless specified otherwise.

The password should not be based on personal information. Try to avoid family names, phone numbers …etc.

The passwords should be easy for you to remember, but not for other people to guess.
