What is customisation?

What is customisation?

Customisation generally means changing something to suit a specific need or purpose.

Think of customisation this way:

It is as if you get a white t-shirt for your child and decided to sew or print cars on the t-shirt because your child likes cars. Now you have customised your child’s t-shirt.

In this module you will learn how to customise your CV and Cover letter based on a real job description. We will be using the CV and Cover letter templates provided in this toolkit and the CV and Cover letters we created together in the videos from Module 3Link opens in a new window. Remember from Module 3, when you are applying for a specific job your CV and Cover letter need to compatible and aligned with the job description of the role you are applying for. This is known as customising your CV and Cover letter.

Customisation is editing your CV and Cover letter and your email to make sure that they are compatible or aligned with the job you are applying for and the employer’s needs.

Customising your CV and Cover letter and also your email (if applicable) is important because it shows your potential employer:

1- You have taken the time to read and understand the role you are applying for.

2- You have taken the time to understand the organisation you are applying to.

3- Show that you have genuine interest in the role you are applying for.
