Customising Cover letter based on Job Description

This is also based on the job description of the job you want to apply for and your customised CV for the same job.

Remember from Module 3 section 3.2Link opens in a new window the Cover letter is based on your CV and its aim is to convince the employer or recruiter why they should hire you instead of anybody else. Therefore, once you have customised your CV, you would need to also customise your Cover letter based on what you wrote in your customised CV for that specific job.

Your Cover letter is dependent and must be compatible with what is written in your CV and the job description. This means that in your Cover letter, you would also need to include the exact same keywords words or phrasing used in the job description and in your customised CV.

The Cover letter focuses on why the employer or recruiter should hire you, unlike the CV which emphasises your skills.

The Cover letter should emphasise how aligned your experience and job and future job choices are with the specific organisation posting the job vacancy, and also why you are very interested in working with that particular organisation.

This means, that in addition to the components of the job descriptions that were highlighted in your customised CV, you should also focus your cover letter on both the Company profile and the job role in the job description.
