The joint Monash Warwick Alliance PhD
The Alliance Joint PhD enables researchers to study at two innovative and internationally renowned institutions. They spend one year at Warwick and one year at any of Monash's Australian campuses. Travel to the other institution usually occurs in the second year. iley Henderson, a third year PhD student, joined the Monash Warwick Alliance Particle Physics group in 2020.
The Alliance addressing fundamental questions in science
What are the basic building blocks of matter? What are the fundamental interactions? What happened in the earliest stages of the Universe, and how did that result in what we observe around us today? Large international collaborations are needed to progress towards answering these questions. Bringing together expertise from Warwick and Monash groups has created a unique alliance that enables us to take ever-stronger leadership in these international endeavours.
Africa
Warwick enjoys excellent relations with a host of institutions and funding bodies across Africa in order to nurture and develop bilateral research and education opportunities with our African partners.
Africa Research Fellowships
The Africa Research Fellowship is hosted by IAS and provides a route for outstanding postdoctoral researchers to visit Warwick and establish connections with academics and departments. The Fellowship programme supports Early-Career Researchers in developing an application to an external funding body which could allow them to develop their academic career.
Launch of the Warwick Africa Hub
Through our bilateral links and The Guild of European Research Intensive Universities, Warwick works with the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) to establish sustainable research and education partnerships with universities and researchers in Africa.
China
Warwick has a strong history of academic collaboration and student exchange with China. We are committed to developing partnerships with leading universities and companies to further internationalise our research and education.
Low Carbon Workshops with Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU)
SJTU has become an important epicentre for science and technology research in China, and in April 2022 we extended our partnership with them on joint research and teaching for five years. To boost collaboration in globally important research challenges, in June Warwick and SJTU’s developed a second joint interdisciplinary workshop in Low Carbon research.
Collaborative PhD programme with SUSTech
SUSTech has become an important epicentre for science and technology research in China. In August 2016 we signed a partnership agreement to establish a collaborative PhD mobility programme. As SUSTech is a new university, the partnership supports it with gaining a licence for awarding PhDs, while for Warwick funded PhDs students increase our research capacity and peer reviewed publications.
Europe
Warwick is a European university, committed to supporting the partnership-building activities of our academics and researchers. We are proud to be a member of the EUTOPIA alliance, delivering open, innovative and inclusive higher education in Europe.
EUTOPIA Co-tutelle Opportunities
The EUTOPIA’s PhD Co-tutelle Programme offers joint PhDs, of three to four years, at contributing EUTOPIA universities. The programme promotes high-quality research projects with global impact and provides exciting research opportunities for PhD candidates.
Influencing European education policy
Research-intensive universities are unique places for innovation in teaching. In response to the pandemic, Professor Jo Angouri, Academic Director of Education and Internationalisation, initiated discussions with European universities around higher education teaching.

In 2012, Monash University, Melbourne, Australia and the University of Warwick combined the expertise and resources of two research-intensive universities, to create a ground-breaking international partnership that is at the forefront of excellence and innovation.

We are committed to extending and deepening our relationships with partners in the Americas, and to pursue opportunities for funding, student mobility, research and teaching collaboration.
Fulbright Commission
Warwick has an established relationship with the Fulbright Commission and over the past few years has welcomed several scholars onto postgraduate courses.
Professor David Roper, Schaefer Research Fellow at Columbia University
In 2020 Roper was awarded a Schaefer Research scholarship enabling him to relocate to New York for twelve months to collaborate with Professor Fillipo Mancia and Dr Jonathon Dworkin based at Columbia Medical School within the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.

At Warwick we focus on five strategic regions but understand the value of developing new opportunities and relationships to expand our international portfolio and collaborate with leading institutions.
Indonesia
In Indonesia, Warwick is developing joint research and teaching activities at the top universities of Universitas Indonesia (UI) and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM).
Singapore
Warwick has an extensive history of collaboration with Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University (NTU), spanning joint degrees, student exchange and undergraduate research, as well as disciplinary-level research partnerships.
