Having been on tour to Italy in March this year, the Symphony Orchestra will be reminiscing as they play Tchaikovsky's music inspired by the star-crossed lovers from Verona. The charming eight-movement Jazz Suite for full orchestra was compiled by unknown colleagues of Shostakovich - possibly in the 1940s - from his film and stage scores. A waltz from this suite was used in the sound-track of Stanley Kubrick's last film Eyes Wide Shut. The concert ends with Rossini's Italianate choral work the Stabat Mater, Chorus and Orchestra and an impressive line-up of soloists in full swing.
