Dr Jonathan Clarke: UK's latest named storm, Isha

Another named storm is yet another reminder, that the UK urgently needs a better plan for improving infrastructure and flood defences if we are to make our communities and country more resilient to a changing climate.

The UK saw Christmas quite like no other, with record levels of rain, warmer temperatures and a series of named storms, that have brought flooding across the country. As much of the country spent early January underwater we now prepare for Storm Irene set to bring cold temperatures and extremely strong winds.

Again, it is a reminder that we need to decisively take action to adapt to such events. The UK urgently needs a strategy for improving infrastructure, including flood defences, if we are to make our communities and country more resilient to a changing climate.
