Trixie Gadd, Undergraduate Programme Manager in the Business School, will shortly be taking part in the world’s toughest yacht race the ‘Global Challenge'. However, before she sets sail Trixie has recently announced a competition with some fantastic prizes up for grabs.

On 3rd October 2004, Trixie will be setting-off from Portsmouth on the first leg of her Global Challenge journey, spending 10 months on board a 72 foot yacht with 16 other people who have little sailing experience (except for the skipper of course), and will be sure to be riding 50 foot waves and battling against winds of over 70 miles per hour.

After crossing the Atlantic on a 6,200-mile leg to Buenos Aires, Trixie and her crew will sail round the Cape of Good Hope, then battle with the Roaring Forties en route to New Zealand. They will sail on to Sydney, Cape Town, Boston and Northern Europe before returning to Portsmouth in the summer of 2005.

Trixie is prepared to endure everything this challenge can throw at her not only for a sense of personal achievement but also as an opportunity to help raise money for the charity-raising organisation Save The Children. Trixie, who has been investing a large amount of time and effort in fundraising activities said:

“Save the Children seemed to be an appropriate charity for me to raise money for, given that I work in the Education Sector”.
