Summer Degree Ceremonies 2011
The University’s Summer Degree Ceremonies will take place from Monday 18 to Friday 22 July 2011. The Summer Ceremonies are a celebration of our students' successes and achievements and, with two ceremonies each day and three on Tuesday 19th, will see around 4,000 students graduating from the University.
The ceremonies will take place in the Butterworth Hall in the Arts Centre. As well as celebrating student successes, honorary degrees will be awarded to distinguished men and women who have made important contributions to cultural, intellectual, social, economic or political life.
This year, recipients include businessman, art collector and philanthropist Sir Peter Moores, current Pro-Chancellor John Leighfield, Senior Fellow of the Andrew Mellon Foundation, Professor Harriet Zuckerman and Warwick's first Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Stuart Palmer. His Hon Richard Cole, the longest serving court judge in Coventry will receive the Chancellor's Medal. Each honorary graduand is presented by an orator, who will deliver a short citation about the achievements that have led to the award of the degree.
The Warwick Awards for Teaching Excellence (WATE) will also be presented at this year’s ceremonies. The WATE awards give staff and students the opportunity to recognise and celebrate excellence in teaching and the support of learning at Warwick. Congratulations go to Rachel Dickinson, Institute of Education, Grier Palmer, Warwick Business School, Vinod Patel, Warwick Medical School, Vas Stavros, Chemistry and James Harrison, Law. Congratulations also go to this year's commendees - Michael Gardiner, English, Zhiyan Guo, Language Centre, Susan Haedicke, Theatre, Performance and Cultural Policy Studies, Fergus McKay, Centre for Lifelong Learning and David Wray, Institute of Education.
