Warwick welcomes Teach First Summer Institute

teach_first_logo.gifThis summer sees the University welcoming The National Teach First Summer Institute to campus. From Saturday 17 July until Friday 6 August, Warwick will host almost 600 new trainee teachers, Teach First staff and tutors from six regional training providers, making it one of the largest events ever organised by Warwick Conferences.

The National Opening Ceremony will take place at 11.30am on Sunday 18 July in The Butterworth Hall with an address from Warwick’s Chancellor Richard Lambert and Brett Wigdortz, CEO of Teach First.

During the second week commencing Sunday 25 July, Teach First will welcome back last year’s successfully qualified graduates from their school placements and, together with corporate sponsors and TDA staff, the numbers will swell to almost 1500 visitors on campus.

The Summer Institute will be running workshops throughout the three weeks and will make use of a large number of buildings, public spaces and residences on campus including The Students’ Union, Humanities, Social Sciences, The Library, Engineering, the Zeeman Building and all of Westwood campus.

This is the first year that Warwick has hosted the conference and it follows on from the Institute of Education’s successful bid to the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) to become a partner in the Teach First National Training Provider ITT Partnership.

As National Training Provider, the University will host the Teach First Summer Institute for three weeks in the summer of 2010 and 2011.

The University is delighted that Teach First has chosen Warwick to host the event after many years at Canterbury Christchurch University and wishes them every success.
