2nd highest Year Ever for Robot Sales as UK Manufacturers Snap up Cheaper Easy to Use Robots
New figures for robot sales to industry, released today (Thursday 17th May) by the British Automation and Robot Association based at the University of Warwick, show that the year 2000 saw the second highest number ever (1538) of robots sold to UK companies.
Prepayment Meters - a Solution, Not a Problem
Prepayment meters for electricity and gas using a charge card or key are unpopular with some policy makers and consumer lobby groups, as failure to charge the card or key results in self disconnection. However, new research carried out by Warwick Business School and the University of East Anglia on behalf of the Electricity Association Fuel Poverty Task Force, shows that this form of payment remains popular with low income customers.
Science Minister Chooses New Company's Laser to Launch more High-Tech Companies
Herfurth Lasers are delighted that Science Minister Lord Sainsbury has chosen one of their lasers to launch the new Mercia Institute of Enterprise. The New institute has the goal of creating at least 10 new fast growth technology firms a year from the region's Universities Just last year "Herfurth Lasers" itself "spun out" from the University of Warwick as a full company on the basis of some novel laser technology. This month the company sold its first complete £70,000 laser to Koito Europe in Droitwich.
6-month old University "spin-out" company now sells to 20 countries
Within six months of incorporation Warwick Control Technologies Limited (WCT), a small 4 man software engineering company "spun out" from innovative research by the University of Warwick, has set up a global distributor network that covers more than 20 countries - five times as many countries as it has employees.
Science Minister fires laser that will spark the birth of new technology firms
On Friday 26th January Lord Sainsbury, the Minister for Science and Innovation, will launch a new initiative which has the goal of "spinning out" at least 10 new fast growth technology firms a year from the region's Universities and which will provide "Enterprise training" for all science and engineering students in those universities. He will launch the new Mercia Institute of Enterprise at 11.45am in the University of Warwick's International Manufacturing Centre by switching on a laser from one of the University of Warwick's existing spin out companies, Herfurth Lasers Technology Ltd, which will cut the new institute's logo out of steel.
£10 million Computer Science Building Opened
Nicholas M. Donofrio, a senior Executive from IBM - the world's biggest IT company, formally opened the University of Warwick's new £10 million Computer Science building on Thursday 18th January.
