IGGY 2013 Global & Gifted conference to explore technology in education

iggy.jpegFollowing the success of IGGY’s Global & Gifted event last year, this year the international conference has expanded to cover three days exploring the use of technology in education from the perspectives of both research and practice.

Global & Gifted will take place from 3rd-5th July at the University of Warwick, Coventry, in the UK.

Delegates are welcome to join for one, two or all three days. The days are grouped by themes covering: Social Media and Online Learning; Freedom, Safety and Security; Gaming in Education.

Keynote speakers include:

Stephen Carrick-Davies, former CEO of Childnet International talking about the language of online safety and responsibility

Ian Warwick of London Gifted and Talented discussing how we create intellectual curiosity and independence

Csilla Fuszek from the European Talent Centre in Budapest on social networks for the gifted and other leaders

Professor Javier Tourón Figueroa, Full Professor of Educational Research Methods at the University of Navarra and former President of the European Council for High Ability will introduce the talent search model and its usefulness for schools

Professor Sara de Freitas of Serious Games Institute will talk about Gamification and Learning

IGGY will also welcome seminar speakers from MENSA, Potential Plus UK, Kids OK Online, NACE, The Centre for Talented Youth in Ireland, the Global Center for Gifted and Talented Children and many other researchers, specialists and representatives from organisations covering topics such as why the human element is important for online teaching and using technology to better engage parents.

Dr Adam Boddison, IGGY Academic Principal, has put together the programme for the conference.

He said: “Building on the success of last year, IGGY’s Global & Gifted conference is a fantastic opportunity to explore current innovations and emerging technologies in the field of gifted education.

"This event will bring together experts and interested professionals alike and the diverse range of international perspectives will provide a real stimulus for debate.

“There is no other conference that brings together this particular cross-section of academics, practitioners, educational technologists and gifted and talented professionals. ”
