Young Midlands Woman First Ever UK Scientist to Win 50,000 Dollar

University of Warwick Postdoctoral research fellow Julie Macpherson has become the first ever UK scientist to win a prize worth $50,000. Julie a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Warwick will be presented with her prize, and give a lecture at a dinner in her honour, at the Electrochemical Society Meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii on 19th October 1999.

Global company Molecular Imaging award the prize annually to the young person who has made the most notable contribution to a specialist field of "Scanning probe microscopy electrochemistry" Julie is the first winner of this award from the UK (previous winners having come from the USA, Canada, Japan and Germany). Julie wins her very own latest scanning probe microscope worth $50,000. Now she has got to find somewhere to put it - probably not the garden shed..........
