Policies Guidelines and Information Relating to Feedback, Appeals and Complaints

Introduction

The University of Warwick encourages feedback from its staff and students and welcomes the opportunity to use this feedback to improve its services and provision across campus to improve the student experience at Warwick. The University also has a clear three-stage Student Complaints Resolution Pathway for informal and formal concerns and complaints which students seeking a specific action or outcome to any issue or problem that has arisen as a result of the University's actions or failure to act or as a result of unreasonable behaviour of another member of the University community can use. Where a student wishes to appeal against a classification of a degree award, or against the decision of an Examination Board, the University also provides clear guidance and support. On this page you will find information on the regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines relating to complaints, students feedback and appeals at the University of Warwick.

Support for Students

Students who have, or are considering submitting a complaint or an appeal also have resources for additional support available to help them through the process. Students are therefore encouraged to speak to one or all of the below sources of additional help and support, as well as contact their personal tutor in their department;
Dignity at Work and Study

The University regards all forms of harassment, including bullying, as unacceptable. The revised Dignity at Warwick policy for staff and students was launched in November 2014 to develop an approach to tackling harassment and bullying by emphasising positive behaviour and the responsibilities that we all have to challenge inappropriate behaviour when we see it. All members of the University Community have a responsibility to:

  • behave in a way that respects the rights and dignity of others
  • treat others fairly
  • use each social interaction to display courtesy and good manners
  • value differences in others and the contribution they make
  • work and study within the University on a co-operative basis
  • demonstrate a commitment to upholding the University's policies on equality and diversity

Feedback

The University of Warwick is committed to providing a high level of service and quality of provision and students are encouraged to provide feedback on all aspects of campus life and teaching and learning at Warwick. If your compliment or concern involves feedback relating to a specific service or department at the University, you should contact the general departmental enquiries number or email as listed on the appropriate department or service website. Some University departments and services specifically provide guidance on their websites about how to give feedback. Do try also to complete relevant questionnaires or surveys asking for your views.

If your feedback is of a general nature, however, and/or you are not aware of a more direct route to provide it, please do use the University's General Feedback Form.

While individual responses will not typically be given when feedback is provided, it will be considered by the most relevant service provider and will be used to help improve the services the University provides to students.

Appeals

The University of Warwick Appeals pages provide full and up to date information on regulations, procedures and required papers for students who may have the right of appeal.

Under certain defined circumstances final-year undergraduate students may appeal against the award of a particular degree class, or if they have not been awarded a qualification (with no further right of resit). First-year and intermediate-year undergraduate students have the right to appeal only against a decision that they be required to withdraw from their course of study, and then only if they are in possession of relevant evidence which was not available to the Board of Examiners when its decision was reached and can provide good reason for not having made the Board of Examiners aware of this evidence previously. Postgraduate Students have the right of an appeal If it is decided that your performance merits the award of a lower qualification than the one for which you were registered or does not merit the award of a qualification at all. Students should note that the appeal procedures may not be used to challenge the academic judgement of examiners, nor to dispute marks awarded in individual modules or pieces of work.

Complaints

Students of the University- The University is committed to providing a high quality service to all our students. However, we realise that at times something may go wrong or you may feel dissatisfied with the service that is provided or with the behaviour of another member of the Warwick community. In these circumstances you are encouraged to raise the problem as quickly as possible with the most relevant individual(s), department or service. The University has a clear and defined Student Complaints Resolution Procedure

Members of the Public-If you are a member of the public, and you wish to submit a complaint about any area of the University Service that you have received information about how to do this this can be found on the University Complaints and Feedback Procedure

Applicants to the University- If you are an applicant to the University of Warwick and have a complaint, or feedback specifically about the University Admissions Process it should be directed through the Student Admissions and Recruitment Office Complaints Procedure
