Professor Vicki Squire
Professor Vicki Squire works in the Department of Politics and International StudiesLink opens in a new window and has been Buddhist Faith Advisor at the Chaplaincy since 2020. She has also been a member of the Chaplaincy University Liaison Group since 2019, and of the Religion, Faith and Belief Taskforce since 2022.
Vicki has been a Nichiren Buddhist for many years, having first started practicing as a teenager in rural Wales. She has a daily practice of chanting nam-myoho-renge-kyo and Gongyo (sections of the Lotus Sutra) and engages in SGI-UK activities on a regular basis. She has delivered many lectures on Buddhist philosophy and practice over the years, including within interfaith and secular forums.
As a faith advisor, Vicki is here to support the diverse community of Buddhists across the university. During her time as Buddhist Faith Advisor, she has helped to set up the Buddhist Room and to ensure the wider community is represented within the University.
