C

Collaborative Organisation

An organisation outside of the University of Warwick that provides support, guidance and/or funding towards the funded PGR student’s particular research project.

Dependant

The student’s spouse, partner, civil partner, child or parent, or any person who lives at the same house as the student (other than as a roommate in shared accommodation, lodger, tenant, boarder, or employee), or who would reasonably and normally rely on the student for assistance or arrangements for care in the event of serious illness or injury.

External Funding

Financial support that comes from an external organisation. In this policy, this includes all funders except the University of Warwick, UKRI and philanthropic donors. For example, other universities, charities, industry organisations and foreign governments.

Flexible Study

Analogous to flexible working for staff, the opportunity to condense hours, work outside core business hours or usual working patterns in order to balance other life commitments. This must be under the agreement of all parties and without over-burdening the student and must allow for sufficient rest time to support wellbeing.

Funding

Financial support specifically to support the postgraduate research project. Usually in the form of scholarship (fee and stipend), sometimes with additional financial support for research related costs.

Primary parent

Have or expect to have responsibility for the child’s upbringing, and are the person who will give birth, the primary adopter or the primary intended parent through a surrogacy arrangement as named on MAT B1 or equivalent documentation.

S

Scholarship

A period of funding awarded that usually comprises full payment of academic fees at the relevant rate and a tax-free stipend to cover living expenses while undertaking postgraduate research study.

Second parent

Have or expect to have responsibility for the child’s upbringing and are the partner of the person who will give birth, the partner of the primary adopter or the partner of the primary intended parent through a surrogacy arrangement.
