Files.Warwick and SFTP (discontinued)

From 1 October 2016 onwards, you can no longer use an SFTP connection to transfer files between your computer and files.warwick.ac.uk. This includes using the ExpanDrive client provided by IT Services or third-party SFTP clients such as FileZilla and WebDrive. All other features of Files.Warwick are unaffected.

After 1 October 2016, to transfer files between your computer and Files.Warwick, please use the web interface at files.warwick.ac.uk. We have increased the maximum file size you can upload via the web browser to 4.5 GB.

Alternatively, instead of using files.warwick.ac.uk, you could store files in your personal (H) or departmental shared (M) folders, also known as MyFiles. You can still connect to these folders over SFTP using the ExpanDrive client after 1 October 2016, and there are no plans to change this facility.

If you have external users who need to transfer files to Warwick over SFTP, please contact the ITS Help Desk. We can enable SFTP connections for external users to upload files to departmental shared (M) folders on request.

  • There is no date set for this yet - we will provide plenty of notice.
  • Support and guidance will be available

in the coming months for your transition to one of the options below.

To store and share files safely and securely, we recommend you use one of the University's approved alternatives:

As in Files.Warwick, both of these platforms enable you to share files with people external to the University, if necessary.
