Professor John Greenlees Appointed Chair of REF 2029 Mathematical Sciences Sub-Panel

Professor John Greenlees from Warwick’s Mathematics department has been appointed as a chair of 'Sub-panel 10: Mathematical Sciences' for REF 2029.

The news comes as part of a wider announcement from Research England that the chairs and deputy chairs for the 34 expert sub-panels to assess research in REF 2029 have now been confirmed.

The panel chairs and deputy chairs will lead their units of assessment through the criteria setting phase, beginning later this year, and on through to the final assessment.

Professor Greenlees commented: "It's a privilege to be serving as SubPanel Chair of Mathematical Sciences in REF2029, building on my experience as a Subpanel member in both REF2014 and REF2021.

REF is a valuable, fair and rigorous way to recognise and support excellence and initiative in research. It has underpinned the building strength of mathematical sciences in the UK, and its broader connections. I look forward to continuing this record for the future."

Work is currently underway to appoint the full panel members, ensuring representation across the necessary range of expertise. These appointments are expected to be announced in summer 2025.
