Operation Wallacea - Conservation and Field

Operation Wallacea is a network of academics from European and North American universities, who design and implement biodiversity and conservation management research expeditions.

Research is supported by participants who join the programme, to strengthen their CV/Resume, gain skills they wish to gain or expand upon. They could also join to collect data for a dissertation or thesis (also known as an Independent Research Project (IRP). Academics benefit from funding for high quality fieldwork enabling them to publish papers in peer reviewed journals. This model enables the collection of large temporal and spatial datasets used for assessing the effectiveness of conservation management interventions.

Learn how biological data collected by volunteers is being used to help with wildlife conservation all over the world, and how you could get involved.

  • Contribute to cutting edge research
  • Work alongside and learn from conservationists in the field
  • Professional fundraising support available

Locations:

  • Mexico
  • Honduras
  • Croatia
  • UK
  • Madagascar
  • South Africa
  • Indonesia

Looking for an exciting way to travel, gain work experience and obtain a valuable teaching qualification?

Join Gotoco's global TEFL placements!

We run 4-12 week programmes in summer with classroom-based placements in Southeast Asia (Thailand and Vietnam) and summer camp programmes in Europe (Romania, Poland, Italy, Germany).

On our TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) programmes, you will:

  • Complete a TEFL qualification (up to Level 5) that can be used for jobs around the world
  • Teach English to children and adult learners around the world in schools or summer camps as part of your training
  • Gain invaluable work experience and references, and complete a professional development course
  • Immerse yourself in a new culture and country, living in a local community
  • Start a backpacking adventure and learn about living and working abroad
  • Meet like-minded and diverse people and build global connections
  • Receive support from our team throughout: pre-departure, in-country, and post-programme

On our placements, you will gain invaluable teaching practice - teaching local students English and leading activities on summer camps. This will offer an excellent opportunity to not only get work experience overseas, but to connect, engage and understand local life on a much deeper level. An experience you simply can’t get from travelling the globe as a tourist or doing work experience in the UK.

How does it work?

For programmes in Southeast Asia and Europe, you pay a discounted fee of £1,400 to access our TEFL course (up to Level 5) with a guaranteed placement of any duration. You can also apply for funding from the university to support your programme costs.

On the programme, you will receive:

  • TESOL/TEFL training and certification (up to Level 5)
  • Guaranteed placement in a supportive school or summer camp, with meals, accommodation, cultural activities and essential in-country travel included. The placements last from 4-12 weeks
  • Professional development mentoring and training throughout your time on the programme
