English Language Requirements for Incoming Exchange Students 26/27

English Language Requirements for Incoming Exchange Students 26/27

(May be subject to change)

In order to study at the University of Warwick, applicants are required to show that their ability in English meets the minimum level required. Therefore, as part of the application process, we will request evidence of English language proficiency. The type of evidence required depends upon your nationality and the type of visa needed.

Country Exemptions

Nationals from the following English speaking countries are exempt according to the UK Visas and Immigration service and therefore, we will not request any evidence from them.

Evidence required for non exempted countries

If your nationality is not on the list of exempted countries above, then evidence of English language proficiency will be required:

If you need a Standard Visitor Visa or Visitor status (part year exchange)

If you will only be studying at Warwick for 6 months or less, then you will either need a standard visitor visa or visitor status once you arrive in the UK. We still need to see evidence of English language proficiency but as it’s not required as part of the visa process, some academic departments at Warwick can consider other types of evidence which isn’t listed below, such as a confirmation letter from your home university (please note that it does depend upon the academic department, for example, Warwick Business School only accept evidence of meeting the scores of one of the tests or qualifications listed below).

If you need a Student Visa (full year exchange)

In order to study for the full academic year at Warwick, you will need a student visa and as part of the visa requirements, you must show evidence of meeting the scores of one of the tests or qualifications listed below, therefore, you will need to provide this when submitting your application to us.

Acceptable English Language Tests

Only acceptable when taken on or after 1 September 2024 for September 2026 entry (only valid for 2 years and one month) Please note that where you have taken more than one English language test, we are only able to accept the results from the most recent test Academic departments may be able to consider lower scores at their discretion

Acceptable school-level qualifications (for undergraduate students only)

Please note that if there are significant gaps between you taking the qualification and starting your home university (for example, more than 2 years) then we may require additional evidence of your English language proficiency. Any applicant could have taken any of the below English qualifications, even if they were not a national of that country or studying in that country, for example, German Abitur English would be acceptable for a Chinese national who studied in China.
