Wellness Plan
Keeping well during the Christmas break
It is always important to look after your wellbeing. However, it is particularly important to pay attention to your own wellbeing if you will be remaining at University or arriving in the UK and coming to the University of Warwick, during the Christmas break.
This Wellness Plan is something students can complete, adding as much detail as you can, to ensure that you are using all of the support and resources that are available to you- see our Christmas support page.
Things that I enjoy doing in ‘normal’ circumstances that improve my wellbeing:
Examples: socialising with others, exercising, shopping, cooking, reading, watching films
Things I can do to look after my wellbeing during the Christmas break:
Examples:
- keep a diary/ journal about each day and note down what you did and how you were feeling
- find ways of exercising in your room or aim to go outside for a walk regularly
- cook together (use Zoom/ Whatsapp if required)
- maintain a good sleep routine – and aim to go to bed before midnight; cease looking at your laptop and mobile phone screens- a couple of hours before you go to bed; have a warm bath before bed; read a book before bed…
Things that I should avoid:
Examples: being on my own for too long, alcohol, certain triggers, drugs…
Things that I have observed that indicate that I am finding things difficult:
Examples: sleeping more/ less, withdrawing from others, eating more or less than usual; feeling more tearful; being snappy/ short- tempered with others
What action can I take when I recognise that I am finding things difficult?
Examples: write thoughts and feelings down, identify and remove triggers, talk to friends and family/ professionals
University of Warwick support and local events for students during the Christmas break:
Examples: Chaplaincy events; events in Coventry, etc.
This extra time is an opportunity for me to…
Example: learn a new skill, get to know my flat, get organised, check in with old friends
Who I can reach out to for support:
Examples: friends, family, Doctor (GP), the Samaritans
