Guidance for students on reflective commentary

You may be asked to write a brief reflective commentary detailing how you have approached the assessment. This is designed to demonstrate that the work you have submitted is your own.

The reflective commentary is not assessed and does not carry any marks.

You will not need to do any additional preparation, research or revision to complete this reflective task, and it is based entirely on your experience of undertaking the assessment.

You will be prompted to respond to two or three reflective questions which may relate to the paper overall or may be focussed on specific elements of the paper.

Questions might include:

  • How did you choose which questions to answer?
  • What did you find most challenging?
  • How did you identify/select texts/examples/data sets/evidence?
  • How did you select which methodology/theory/formulae to apply?
  • What do you think you did well?
  • What do you think you did less well?
  • How did you feel about doing this assessment?
  • How did your work on previous assessment/problem sets/seminar groups inform your response to the question/s?

You should spend no more than 15 minutes writing your reflective commentary and should write no more than 300 words.
