Birthday honours 2016

Congratulations to Professor Christine Ennew, our next Provost, who has been appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list 2016 for her contribution to international higher education.

Christine will take up her post at Warwick in August 2016 and joins us from the University of Nottingham.

Several other people who have a close association with Warwick were also honoured, including:

  • Nilesh (Neil) Sachdev who received an MBE for services to Energy Efficiency and Sustainability in the Retail Sector. Neil is a member of our University Council, a former member of the Green Construction Board and former property director of J Sainsbury.
  • David Burbidge, who is already an OBE, was made a CBE for services to cultural philanthropy. David is leading Coventry’s bid to become the UK’s City of Culture which brings together Coventry’s two universities, the City Council and many other cultural organisations.
  • Stanley Wells, an honorary graduate of Warwick, and honorary president of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, becomes Sir on the award of a Knighthood for his services to Shakespeare scholarship.
