Difficult circumstances

You may well find that your personal circumstances are severely impacted by the current pandemic in a way that limits your ability to complete your studies and assessment. The mitigating circumstances process enables you to inform us so that we can consider where allowances need to be made.

We know that accessing medical and support services will be more difficult so we have simplified the process for requesting short extensions on some types of assessment and relaxed the requirements for supporting evidence for claims, whether related to Covid-19 or not.

Your academic department will also be in touch with specific information on how this impacts your course, including which assessments are eligible for 5-day extensions through the new option to self-certify your mitigating circumstances, and how to request this through their existing process for extensions. Once you have received this information from your department, we advise you to inform your Personal or Senior Tutor in the department that you are experiencing difficult circumstances. They will be able to support you in recording your mitigating circumstances in Tabula or myWBS.

Of course, we know that some of you, for example those who are very ill or who have caring responsibilities, may want to defer exams this term to a later date. If this applies to you, please log your mitigating circumstances and we will be in touch with more detail as we work through the process in detail.
