Temporary enhanced Covid-19 PCR testing on campus

On Tuesday 21 December, Wednesday 22 December and Thursday 23 December, enhanced Covid-19 testing will be available on campus to help limit the spread of Covid-19 and keep us all safe.

The new Omicron variant is spreading quickly both locally and nationally, and we know that people who have been infected with previous variants are still able to be infected with Omicron, which is why it’s really important to get tested.

Temporary enhanced Covid-19 PCR testing on campus

We’re working with Coventry City Council and the UK Health Security Agency to temporarily increase the PCR testing offer on campus for people who may have Covid-19 but are not currently experiencing symptoms. Testing will be available for all students living on or off campus.

This is a precautionary measure to prevent any further spread within our campus and local area and to protect all members of our community in the run-up to Christmas.

Getting an asymptomatic (no symptoms) PCR test

A mobile PCR unit will be based on the Piazza offering tests from 9am – 5pm on Tuesday 21 December, Wednesday 22 December and Thursday 23 December. You do not need to book, simply turn up and wait to be seen.

After your symptom-free PCR test, you do not need to self-isolate while you await the results, but you must continue to follow Covid-19 safety requirements.

You’ll be notified of your test results within 48 hours. If your test comes back positive, you should self-isolate for 10 days.

Ongoing asymptomatic (no symptoms) and symptomatic testing

In addition to the PCR test, anyone without Covid-19 symptoms should continue with routine twice weekly lateral flow tests. You can collect tests on campus or order them online.

If you are experiencing any Covid-19 symptoms, no matter how mild, you should self-isolate immediately and book a PCR test. See details of the main Covid-19 symptoms. It may be useful to be aware of additional symptoms people have been experiencing including a sore throat, headache, fatigue and muscle weakness.

Advice for close contacts

Support

If you’re self-isolating or need any support over the Christmas vacation, you’ll find contacts and resources on the Christmas at Warwick wellbeing page. You can also hear from some of our teams about support available over the Christmas period.

Covid-19 vaccinations and booster jabs

Finally, we’d like to remind you to book your Covid-19 vaccinations over the vacation, whether that’s your first or second vaccination, or a booster jab. See dates and times of drop-in vaccination clinics in Coventry and Warwickshire or book via the National Booking Service. Please book as soon as possible – vaccinations are critical for enhancing our protection against the spread of the Omicron variant of Covid-19.
