Warwick Farewell: Steve Lamb

We’d like to wish Steve Lamb all the very best as he retires from his role as Senior Tutor on 31 December 2015. Steve has worked at Warwick for over 40 years – both as Senior Tutor for the last eight years and as an active teacher and researcher in German Studies. Colleagues and friends are welcome to join Steve for drinks and refreshments at the University’s formal farewell and thanks on Wednesday 16 December at 1pm in the University House atrium.

Professor Peter Winstanley will succeed Steve as Acting Senior Tutor on 1 January 2016. Peter will undertake this role alongside his continuing role as Chair of the Faculty of Medicine and Non-Executive Director of University Hospital.

What is a Senior Tutor?

The Senior Tutor provides sympathetic advice and support to students who feel they are experiencing difficulties with their studies, and actively promotes the academic and personal welfare of all Warwick students. The Senior Tutor is also responsible for Warwick’s personal tutoring system, providing help and advice to academic members of staff who are Personal Tutors.

Peter is taking up the role in an acting capacity whilst we consider how best to develop academic pastoral support at Warwick to most effectively support our students’ experience and time at Warwick.

Steve was appointed as Senior Tutor in January 2008, and – in German Studies - has focused on culture and politics in the Weimar Republic and in exile, and in particular on Ernst Toller and Klaus Mann, and on German cinema and culture in the new Berlin republic.

Ken Sloan, Registrar and Chief Operating Officer said:

After more than 40 years’ service the University has benefited greatly from Steve’s work and contributions. This has been felt in his department, in the lives of many hundreds of staff and students, and on the University cricket team. So many staff and students have looked to him for advice, guidance and support and, where challenge has been needed, he has been happy to provide it. I wish him a very happy and satisfying retirement and know that his connection to Warwick will remain as strong as ever.

We are grateful to Peter for taking on the role of Acting Senior Tutor. He will bring a wide and valuable range of experience to the role not only of work with students and staff, his understanding of teaching and research at Warwick, but also through his understanding of the local and national NHS landscape."

Save the date

Join Steve for drinks and refreshments and to say goodbye on Wednesday 16 December 2015 at 1pm in University House atrium.
