If you have passed enough credits overall to progress to the next level of study or to graduate, but have failed one or more module, then you may be offered the opportunity to take an optional reassessment as a capped resit or an uncapped further first attempt (FFA) for those modules.
Reassessments are available for failed modules (if offered by your examination board). You'll be given information about the decisions exam boards make, including the reassessments you have applied and been entered for, with your end of year results.
If you have been granted mitigating circumstances, your examination board may offer you reassessments for failed modules. If you started your course in 22/23, you will also be offered a capped resit for any failed modules as set out in full in the Right to Remedy Failure policy.
You can choose whether or not to take the optional reassessment in September. Please note:
- If you are a finalist and choose to take an optional reassessment, then your graduation will be delayed and you will not be able to graduate in the summer degree congregations (once the reassessments have been taken, you will graduate at a later date).
- If you are a non-finalist, you will be able to progress to the next year of study, whether you choose to take one or more optional reassessments in September or not. However, if you are offered further optional reassessments in the September results, you will need to choose whether to progress or to take a reassessment without a residence year.
If you are a finalist student eligible to graduate and you wish to take your optional reassessments, you need to let the Modules Marks & Assessments Team know by 12 July 2023 at the latest. The form to request optional reassessments will open for use just before the results release date. Read the form and opt in for optional reassessmentsLink opens in a new window.
It is important to note that if you do decide to take you optional reassessments you will not be able to graduate and attend an Awards Ceremony until such reassessments are completed.
Non-finalist students who are eligible to progress to the next level of study are automatically registered for any optional reassessments. If you are a non-finalist student eligible to progress to the next level of study, and you do not wish to take your optional reassessments, you need to let the Modules Marks & Assessments Team know by 10 August 2023 at the latest. The form to request optional reassessments will open for use just before the results release date. Read the form and opt out of optional reassessmentsLink opens in a new window.
Centrally timetabled examinations will still appear on your timetable, however you may ignore this if you have completed a form opting out from the reassessments.
