One hundred and twenty year 5 primary school pupils are now in the third week of a university module delivered by the Warwick Bright Stars Ambassadors. Schools can choose from a range of cross-curricular modules adapted to their needs, include Economics, Law, Languages and History. All pupils will be coming onto campus in March with their parents to graduate from the programme. For more information about Warwick Bright Stars visit here.

Eighty year 12 students and their parents attended the Realising Opportunities programme launch at the University of Warwick campus on Friday 26^th January. The students learnt about the two-year programme and how it will support them on their journey to university.

Throughout the programme the students will be supported by the University of Warwick and a dedicated ementor who is a currently a student here. Successful completion of the RO Programme gives them the opportunity to have their achievements recognised through UCAS, resulting in additional consideration and the potential for alternative offers from the RO universities.

Winners will receive £50 cash prize and the opportunity to spend a workshop day at Warwick University

Secondary History teachers are invited to a special CPD event at the University of Warwick exploring the West India Regiments in the 18th to 20th centuries as a lens through which to examine colonial history, empire, the slave trade, and military history.
 
Speakers include:

• Keynote speakers Abdul Mohamud and Dr Robin Whitburn, founders of Justice To History and history educators at UCL Institute of Education

• Andy Holland, who has worked as a History teacher and lecturer in schools and colleges for over 30 years, and is also an experienced A Level examiner and the author of a number of A Level History textbooks

• Melissa Bennett, PhD student at Warwick University working on the Africa’s Sons Under Arms Project and Higher Education Coordinator at Museum of London

The event will enable teachers to build on their knowledge of teaching race and empire in the classroom through object-based learning, extend best practice in developing students’ skills in historical enquiry and interpretation, and take away practical ideas for lessons. There will also be networking opportunities and refreshments provided.

 
The event is aimed at key stage 3, key stage 4 and A Level History teachers.
 
The event is part of Africa's Sons Under Arms, a collaborative research project between the University of Warwick and the British Library, and funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). It uses the history of the West India Regiments to explore armed people of African descent serving within the wider British army. This will bring improved understanding of the nature of racial thought from the 18th to 20th centuries. Teachers can now register their post-16 students for the British Biology Olympiad (23^rd – 31^st January). The online competition challenges students with an interest in biology to expand their talents, and also provides a means of selecting a team to represent the UK at the International Biology Olympiad. This is a wonderful opportunity for Year 11/12 students to learn valuable research and presentations skills, engage with current academic debate, meet world leading academics and get a taste of the vibrant and engaging life at the University of Warwick

This event is modelled on the popular BBC television series The Apprentice. Year 9 pupils will be divided into small groups and will be set the challenge of producing an advertising campaign to encourage foreign tourist boards to invest in their company and the local area.
