Accepted English language Tests
The following English Language tests and requirements have been approved by the University for entry to postgraduate courses. These are the only tests that will be accepted by The University of Warwick. If you have taken an alternative test that is not on the list below you will need to arrange to take one of the acceptable tests.

In order to verify the Cambridge Advanced (or CAE) online, applicants need to supply their "secret number".
Band A
Overall score: 180 - No component below 170
Band B
Overall score: 190 - 2 at 170, 2 at 190
Band C
Overall score: 200 - 2 at 180, 2 at 200
Band D
Overall score: 210 - 2 at 190, 2 at 210
The following CPE results are required for each English Language band:
Band A
180 overall; no component below 170
Band B
190 overall; 2 at 170, 2 at 190
Band C
200 overall; 2 at 180, 2 at 200
Band D
210 overall; 2 at 190, 2 at 210
The following Duolingo results are required for each English language band. Only Duolingo tests that provide individual Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening component scores are acceptable to meet English language conditions.
Band A
120 overall with at least 110 in each component (Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing)
Band B
130 overall with at least 110 in two components and 130 in two components (Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing)
Band C
140 overall with at least 120 in two components and 140 in two components (Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing)
The following IELTS (Academic, UKVI or IELTS Online) results are required for each English Language band. Note we do not accept one skill retakes. The test must be taken in one sitting.
Band A
6.5, none below 6.0
Band B
7.0, two at 6.0/6.5 & rest 7.0+
Band C
7.5, two at 6.5/7.0 & rest 7.5+
Band D
8.0, two at 7.0/7.5 & rest 8.0+
The Pearson (Academic) results below are required for each English Language band. Please note, PTE Academic Online is no longer accepted to meet English language conditions. Pearson (Academic) tests should be taken in a PTE Test Centre.
Band A
62 (including 59 + in all components)
Band B
70 (including 59 + in all components)
Band C
75 (including 59 + in all components)
Band D
79 (including 70 + in all components)
The following TOEFL (iBT) test results are required for each English language band:
Band A
92, comprising Reading 22, Listening 21, Speaking 23, Writing 21
Band B
100, comprising Reading 22, Listening 21, Speaking 23, Writing 21
Band C
108, none below 23
Band D
113, none below 25
The University of Warwick only accepts TOEFL (iBT) scores from the single most recent test date, not MyBest scores. Please note we only accept the test at a test centre or at home. We do not accept the test on paper.
The following Trinity ISE II test results are required for each English language band:
Band A

Band B, C and D

Application deadlines
If you do not require a student visa there are no application deadlines for most of our postgraduate taught courses.
If you require a student visa, the application deadline for all courses starting in September/October 2025 is 2 August 2025.
However, places are limited in some departments so you should submit your application as soon as possible. Some departments also have earlier deadlines – so you should check the information in the Essential Information for each course.
