If you are a graduate looking to develop a career in international business, this course will give you the skills and knowledge needed to do business in a global context. You will develop an appreciation of the special requirements for successfully conducting business across national boundaries along with knowledge of relevant theories and their practical application to business cases.

There is a choice of Dissertation, or Business in Practice route. If you are considering further academic study (PhD) and you would like the opportunity to research a topic relating to international business, the dissertation enables you to test and apply the techniques and theories you have gained.

If you would like to develop further applied skills to suit your career aspirations, you can complete your studies with one additional optional module and our applied Business in Practice module.

In total you will study eight core modules, two optional modules and also complete the Business in Practice or Dissertation capstone module.

Dissertation route

If you are considering further academic study (PhD) and you would like the opportunity to research a topic relating to international business, the 6,000-word dissertation enables you to test and apply the techniques and theories you have gained. You will be supervised and supported throughout and will usually submit your dissertation in early September. The Research Methodology module will help prepare you for the dissertation.

In total, you will study eight core modules and one optional, and complete the Research Methodology module and a dissertation.

Business in Practice route

If you would like to develop further applied skills and specialist knowledge to suit your career aspirations, you can complete your studies with our applied Business in Practice module. You will develop deep functional and industry expertise with practical insights from our faculty and industry experts.

In total you will study eight core modules, two optional modules and also complete the Business in Practice capstone module.

The typical class size for this course is around 110 students.

Students on this MSc will typically receive between 27 and 30 contact hours per module, via a mixture of virtual and in-person support.

Over three terms, you’ll study eight compulsory modules, and select one optional module. If you choose the Dissertation route you will undertake the Research Methodology module in term two, and if you select the Business in Practice route you will also select one additional optional module in term two. Assessment of these modules will vary, and you may be assessed by group presentation, individual assignment, or examination.  


Your timetable

Your personalised timetable will be complete when you are registered for all modules, core and optional, and you have been allocated to your lectures, seminars and other small group classes. Your core modules will be registered for you and you will be able to choose your optional modules when you join us.

There may be events taking place in the evenings. Classes may run up to 7pm and other events, such as careers presentations may take place later or on weekends. Occasionally, classes and exams may be held on weekends. We will notify you in advance if this is the case.

This is a full-time course, so there are no holidays as such. However, the two weeks covering Christmas and New Year are guaranteed to be free from lectures. There may also be weeks free over the Easter period (check with your programme team). Resit exams may take place outside of standard teaching periods.

2:1 undergraduate degree (or equivalent).

This course will suit a wide variety of candidates looking to break into business, and continue to develop their knowledge in business, and we welcome applicants from all academic fields.

Applicants with three or more years of post-graduation professional business experience are typically better suited to our Full-Time MBA programme.
