A PhD provides an opportunity for you to spend up to four years conducting full time research in an area in which you wish to specialise. You need to identify an area and an academic willing to supervise you during your research. You write up a thesis at the end of your studies. In some cases, the project may be carried out in collaboration with an industrial sponsor.
